New Sporting Dog, Bird-Hunting Memoir by Paul Vang

By Admin • November 3rd, 2011

Sweeter than Candy – a Hunter’s Journal is an unabashedly sentimental look back at years of hunting pheasants, grouse and waterfowl, as well as an examination of the bonds between a hunter and his Labrador retrievers.

Sweeter than Candy takes the reader on a walk across the prairies, woodlands, trout streams and mountainsides of Montana and North Dakota. It’s a celebration of the outdoors as a vital part of life.

Paul F. Vang grew up around dogs and pheasants on the family farm in southern Minnesota. After graduating from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota, he had a 33-year career with the Social Security Administration. After leaving government service he launched a second career as a freelance writer and columnist.

In addition to weekly newspaper columns, his work has been published in many magazines, including Montana Outdoors, North Dakota Outdoors, Kiwanis, Wheelin’ Sportsmen, Blue Ridge, and Distinctly Montana. Has has won awards from the Outdoor Writers Association of America and the Montana Newspaper Association. He’s a past president of the Northwest Outdoor Writers Association.

Paul and his wife, Kay, and black Lab, Flicka, live in Butte, Montana – that is when he’s not out hunting or flyfishing.
